On the second day of the Shared Identities – Identidades Compartidas conference, held April 22–24 in Évora, the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Spain was invited to lead a training workshop for the project’s teaching staff and artistic team, as well as for students at the University of Évora.
The session was led by José Manuel Barbero, who developed an activity based on the concept of individual and shared identity: who we are as individuals and who we are as a group. Through a theatrical exercise, the workshop allowed participants to analyze and experience identity as part of each person’s past, share who we are in the present, and look toward the dreams and aspirations of the future.
This activity is part of the European project “Shared Identities,” coordinated byMUS-E Hungría and developed in collaboration with MUS-E Alemania, la Associação Yehudi Menuhin Portugal (AYMP) and the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Spain. Over the course of its 24-month duration, the project works in schools in Hungary, Germany, Portugal, and Spain on issues related to inclusion, diversity, and identity formation through various artistic disciplines.
The workshop held in Évora also tied in with the key themes that underpin the project—roots and traditions, the environment, connections with the community, and dreams and aspirations—and highlighted the value of theatrical language as a tool for exploring identity through a shared experience.
